I hope I am not repeating any previous posting, first time here for
quite some time.

I am trying to help a friend who has a small four computer public
internet access network within another business he runs.

He is having some trouble currently with people altering settings and
generally "fiddling around" with the computers and is looking for a
freeware or cheap solution to the problem.

The network consists of a mixture of various P3 & P4 computers all with
plenty of RAM and stacks of hard disk space. The server and one other
computer runs on MS 2K Pro SP4 and there is 1 x XP Pro and 1 x XP home.

He is not currently in a financial position to carry out any upgrade to
a consistent platform of operating systems. He owns proper licences for
the above software.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Regards
Echy

IF XP is the server(?) why can't he use remote to slap restrictions on those
workstations?
I'm not sure I understand what you're asking if the above doesn't apply.

The Public Access Computing Security Tool will make the job easier.
You can get it from:
http://pacomputing.webjunction.org/d...ontent?id=7593
Combine it with Trust-No-Exe available at:
http://www.beyondlogic.org/solutions...ust-no-exe.htm
and you have a pretty secure system.

Firstly bring out an addition to their contract making "Unauthorised
alterations to computer configuration" a dismissable offence.

Secondly alter the user accounts so that they can't do this by making
them ordinary users instead of administrators.
