Access CD drives

WIN-XP-HOME-SP2 -- E-machine (2) CD drives CD/DVD and CD/RW
When inserting any CD in either drive WIN does not "see" the contents and it
doesnt "autoplay" It just shows a blank screen - Device Mgr says the
device(s) are working properly -- In a command prompt when entering the Drive
letter (D: or E

I get the error message
"The parameter is incorrect"
Have run Anti-virus and spyware programs -- all "ok"
Suggestions ???
