Access & Citrix

I have a FE/BE database that's in use in around 70 locations around UK and
which has worked fine with multiple users for many years.

A very few of them run the database under Citrix, which I know very little
about, and for the last few months, one of them has been getting an error
message saying "Could not use <back-end file>; file already in use" when more
than one person has tried to open the front-end. Creating individual copies
of the front-end file has had no affect.

Any one any idea as to what's going on please?

This is a permissions problem and really has nothing to do with
Citrix. The users must have create permissions to create the LDB
file so the second user can access the BE file and Jet can lock
pages/records.

Many thanks for coming back to me, only just seen your response as I didn't
get a notification.
It doesn't look to be a permission problem as all the users can get in when
they are the only ones accessing the database. Sometimes they can get in at
the same time but unfortunately, and we've not been able to identify a trend,
at other times they can't.

It also doesn't seem to be a server problem as the other day two users have
both got in Ok when on the same server and then again later when they were on
different servers. Today there were two users logged in wihout problem, one
logged out but ran into problems when they logged back in an hour later.

Puzzzled!

If the users don't have create permissions but do have update
permissions then the above is quite reasonable. After all to get in
one at a time they don't have to create the LDB file. It's just when
the second user comes in and the LDB file isn't created when you have
these problems.

This problem could also be just one or two users. So ask each of the
users to create a different notepad file on the server share and then
update it. Whichever users can't create a notepad file are having the
problem.

Could also be the order in which the users access the system. If the
user A first in had create permissions and the second user B didn't
then all is fine. However if user B comes in first, user A couldn't
access the database file.
