encounter upgrading your Access 97 databases to Access 2003 at

There's no problem with having both versions on the same machine. Just make
sure you tell Office not to uninstall the previous version when you're
installing the new version. (Of course, this assumes you've got a regular
version of Office 2003, not an upgrade version. When you purchase an Upgrade
version, you don't get a new license. That means you can't legally install
both versions)
