My knowledge of Access is limited, and I am trying to transfer an Access
97 Database from one computer to another with Access 2000. The file
that I access on the old computer is called "UMDEF00.MDE." However,
when I copied that to the new computer and tried to open it with Access
2000, I could not. The error message said: "You cannot convert or
enable an MDE file." What am I doing wrong?

Just what the message said. You cannot convert an MDE file. You must have
the original MDB, convert THAT, and then create a new MDE (if you want).
