I can't find the default "System.mdw" for Access 2007? Is there one? Do I
have to copy over my "System.mdw" file from Access 2003.

I've searched everywhere and I just can't seem to find the default End User
security file or settings for Access 2007. Do I have to repair or uninstall
and re-install?

What am I doing wrong? By the way I know how to run the Workgroup
Administrator from within Access 2007. I just can't find the default
system.mdw.

Go to the Immediate Window, type

?SysCmd(acSysCmdGetWorkgroupFile)

and hit Enter.

Thank you, but not the answer to my question. I want to know where the
default system.mdw file is, not the one I'm currently connected to. When I
say default, I mean when you first install Access 2007 where is the first,
initial, from the factory, "System.mdw" file located? I can't find it? Is
there one or does Access 2007 use something else??

Thanks muchly.

Why do you think that the mdw file to which you're currently connect isn't
the default one? Unless you've explicitly told Access to use a different
one, it should be the default one.

I've spent days trying to sort out this problem having set security on a 2003 database, then finding that whenever I started Access 2007 it asked for a logon, regardlless of the database I was using.

The answer is here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888734. Access to the Workgroup Administrator in Access 2007 is through the VB immediate window.

And what the posts do not tell you is that you don't need to have a 2007 database open. You can open the VB immediate window at the Access 2007 Getting Started page, using CTRL+G.

The Workgroup Administrator will then allow you to Join the system.mdw file, first showing the location in a file browse window. Because I had re-installed Access 2007 I had two system.mdw files, so I joined to the earlier one, and everything works now.

I had this issue and to find the the location when I clicked on the "create" button and then the location was "revealed" to me in the save dialogue. Cancelled the create and just posted the location with the default system.mdw name. I wish the workgroup administrator stuff was reinvented as a different beast back in the 90s...
