Access 2007 importing issues

First of all my set up is a laptop with Access 97, office 2000, and Access
2007 installed in different directories. With that said on with my issues

1. I have all 3 of the above set to a default location of c:\1work (all my
work files are here). Well access 97 and office 2000 default there ok but now
Access 2007 wont, I have even set it up to but it still defaults to
c:\Documents and Settings\xxxxxx. Do I need to fix a registry setting to
force this? and if so which one.

2. when importing I have to change the default directory as soon as I hit
browse it has to "initialize root folder to display" and the as I go to C: it
is ok but as soon as I double click on 1work it can take up to 20 minutes to
get it to open up. Is there anything I can do to speed it up?

TIA
