Do you have Symantec Endpoint Protection installed on that PC? If you do, try going to Change Settings, Configure Settings for Centralized Exceptions, Add/Security Risk Exceptions/Extensions, and add mdb and accdb for the extensions of file types to exclude. Then OK your way out and see if that solves the lifeboat problem.

We've found Symantec Endpoint Protection crashes Access for some users, and for all of us, it crashes Word if you edit a file on a USB drive and try to save it back (the solution so far for that was to exclude doc and docx).
