Maybe there are a lot of changes in access 2007 that I just dont
understand, but I am having NO luck with it!

First I tried to link to a Dbase 4 file on our network and it kept
telling me it couldnt do it. Something about needing to open it
exclusively. So late one night I had to do it when no one was using
that db. Seems very odd since I commonly do the same thing (to the
same databases) in older versions with no problems. I am not trying to
open it excusively myself, and no one else has it opened exculsively
either.

Second, When I try to run search and replace operations I get many
errors popping up that like "invalid argument". I cancel it and it
continues ok, but that is REALLY annoying.

And now Im trying to do an append query, to append all of the records
in that external db to an internal one. It runs for 15-20 minutes and
then says it cant open table "append to internal", which is NOT a
table, its the name of the saved query! I know I could do an import
instead of attaching but I dont see why it would be a problem to do it
this way.

Now Im wondering if maybe this is because of the size of the db. Its
1.8GB. The reason Im using access 2007 is that when I try importing it
into an access 97 db it says it's too big. Is it still too big for
2007? Could this be why I am getting all the errors?

Size may be an issue for you as an Access file can only be 2Gb in size and
that includes system objects. So, at 1.8Gb it may not have enough space to
use the system items such as your database link, etc.

You might try using a blank database to test that theory out (to see if you
can connect to your database, etc.).

Now, with 1.8Gb, have you run Compact and Repair lately as well? If not,
you should because if you haven't already gotten there, there is a point at
which you can no longer do it because of size.
