I have a problem with IE and other programs abruptly
ending, without warning or message.
When I try to run IE, the browser window is drawn on the
screen for about a second before it disappears. The Task
Manager does not list the program under either Applications
or Processes; I presume the program completely terminates.
Outlook Express does the same thing.
Outlook (full, not express) abruptly terminates when I try
to download a message, though it can send messages.
The same problem happens with Quicken 2002 when I try to
access online resources.
Most disturbingly, when I click on "Internet options,"
"User accounts," or even the operating system Help, they
all show the pointer-hourglass for a few seconds and then
revert back to the normal mouse, but nothing comes up.
If I am exploring my HD and type an internet address in the
address bar, the whole Explorer interface closes and
re-starts, as though I had killed the explorer through the
tast manager (Start menu bar disappears and then reloads
after a second).
The following DO work, however:
Microsoft Automatic Update, Netscape, Symantic LiveUpdate,
internet radio broadcasts via RealPlayer (I don't use Media
Player).
So what do you think?
