Windows XP/SP-3. Up to date on AVG and Malware Bot Removal. Scans show clean.
File contains old family photos downloaded from family or personally scanned.
Every time I try to open this file one or two pics start to show and then I
get something to the effect: Windows <?> has run into a problem and needs to
close. Boom! The window before me vanishes before my eyes; I am back at
desktop. I have not noticed this with any other file on my pc. Odd, only on
this picture file, eh?

OK...apparently all your other photo folders
behave correctly?

Sorry...I don't have a guaranteed fix but
the following steps might be worth a try:

Right click the closed folder and from the
menu...choose...Properties / Customized tab...

Open the 'Use this folder type as a template'
and choose...Documents / Apply / OK.

This will prevent Thumbnails from generating.

Maybe...just maybe you can open the folder
now and see the File Names. What are the
extensions on the photo files? .jpg, .bmp, .png???

What happens if you create a new folder and
copy / paste the contents of the corrupted folder
into the new one?

Try right clicking the photo and choose save as. You can try renaming the
file and seeing of you are able to open the new one. This is worth a try.
