antivirus definitions. And if you don't have an antivirus package installed
on your computer, please take a walk off a very high cliff ... and take your
computer with you.

Such anger. I am averaging about 20 of those messages a day. I don't have
antivirus. I just make sure not to open any e-mails from sources unknown
with attachments unwanted. And before you go of off deep end: No, I have
never picked up a virus.

To answer your question: I do run a virus checker every now and then, just
to make sure. But I do not run it on a continuous bases, as I find it takes
up more of my resources than I care to give up. Further more, I feel being
behind a router and a software firewall allows me a degree of protection
that I am comfortable with. Additionally, since most viruses require a user
action to be allowed to install themselves onto the client system and since
I do not ever take such action I have been virus free for the past 14-15
years or so. And once again, it is not an idle statement, but a verified
result.

I do appreciate your concern, though. Obviously some of the people who have
me in their address books are not as careful (hence the loaded mailbox on my
end)

Antivirus taking up too many resources? What are you running on a 386?
Stop making excuses and install an antivirus tool in real time protection
mode. With today's worms, it's people like you that allow them to
propagate. Even if you're telling the truth, there's a first time for
everything. I'm sure that at least 100 people sending me the virus have the
same story you do. It's irresponsible not to at least have an up to date
antivirus program running on any computer connected to the public Internet.
Especially if you're responsible for your company's network. An exactly
how is a router supposed to replace real time virus checking? That
statement shows how little knowledge you actually posses on the issue. you
know you're wrong, just admit it and install that antivirus, fella.

resources but running antivirus is not? Are you in charge of your company's

Since the firewall scans, or more accuratly filters, incoming and outgoing
traffic and doesn't scan every file I open and close.... duh...
And I never discussed my company. I only discussed my personal computers in
my own home. Never did I mention how I would handle average everyday
ignorant user like yourself. But you go right ahead and create your own
scenarios to fit your own vision. That will make your argument all the more
valid.
