After numerous attempts to correct a power off problem, I'm wondering
if anyone on this board has a solution.
ASUS A8V-E Deluxe
Antec True Blue 480 Power Supply
1 Gig Corsair XMS DDR 400 Memory
Radion PCI-E x 16 Graphics card
2X Samsung EIDE 160 Gig drives
Running on-board "G" wireless
Windows XP Home SP-2
Latest 1004 BIOS
The OS and software installation proceeds normally for a while. Then
at some point, when I select shut down, the computer goes through
"looging off" and "Saving settings" then after a few seconds powers
down the hard drives and turns off the cursor but then hangs at the
"shutting down the computer" screen. I have to power down the rest of
the way manually with the case power switch. No data is lost since
the system has executed the saving settings and disk shutdown routines
but it is an annoyance.
In spite of multiple builds, loading peripherals and software
utilities in various orders, I cannot pin down a specific culprit. An
XP repair load does not clear up the problem.
Note that everything works correctly during the early phases of the
loading process. I check the power off sequence after each addition
and it works OK. Then at some random point, it just stops working.
During the last attempt, all was well until I loaded the LAST software
package which was Windows Office 2000. There are no new drivers in
that software, yet that is the step that "broke" the power off on this
build.
Microsoft does not seem to have a patch for this problem. Do any of
you people know of a fix?
Thanks
