A8V bios not retaining boot order

Bit of a long story here...A8V motherboard with SATA HDD and
optical drive. Optical drive is detected in setup but not
detected in bios boot-order configuration.

Was able to patch a regular IDE CD drive in and it is detected in
bios and boot order config. However...

Bios will not retain boot-order changes.

Intended order: floppy, CD, HDD. No matter how many times the
changes are saved, on reboot it resets itself to floppy, HDD and
third option disabled.

I was told it's a bad board. I'm suspicious of that because all
other setting changes are retained...the tech ESC'ed out of the
boot config after changing it, saving changes at the main bios
menu. I've always saved changes at each screen.

Any thoughts?

It looks like a need of new BIOS.

This doesn't answer your question, but:

Which SATA controller do you have the optical drive on?

I've never used one, but I have read that the Promise controller does not
support optical drives. I presume that the VIA controller is OK with
opticals.

Address scrambled. Replace nkbob with bobkn.

VIA, same controller as the hard drive.
