A8N-Sli Prem, AMD 4200+ & Win XP SP2?

I built a new computer system using an existing Win XP Pro SP2 operating
system (IDE hard drive) -- going from an AMD 2200+ on an Asus A7V333, to
a 4200+ X2 on an A8N-SLI Premium MB (bios 1008). I made sure the generic
VGA drivers were being used along with the basic primary/secondary IDE
setup when starting for the first time (been down that road <G>). When I
booted Windows, it loaded all the drivers it needed and all was good.
The problem is I can't tell if the dual core is recognized or not.

Under device manager it shows 2 processors (which is good). However,
using CPU-Z it only sees one core. The processor selector is grayed out
and only shows processor 0, core 0. There are other clues that only one
processor is being seen. Under "admin tools/performance/system monitor/%
processor time" there is only one graph shown. However, using TaskMgr's
performance tab the CPU usage graph has a red and green line.

How do I check to make sure both cores are seen/working correctly?

Thanks,
Dave

Then don't believe CPU-Z.
I suppose it is not compatible with dual core.

Why are you making things up?

CPU-Z v1.31 is dual core compatible.

On my Asus A8N-SLI Premium with an AMD X2 4200+ and Win XP w/SP2 CPU-Z
shows both cores. TaskInfo2000 also shows both cores.

hi

to just move a running xp system to a new home like that is quite tricky! (just did it
myself, hate to reinstall all software and have done this some times before!)

i guess that you have a lot of old settings from the old motherboard in the system, you have
to remove all these.

go to the devicemanager and select "show hidden" (or something simular), view the whole
device tree now and delete all devices that are greyed out!!! (if you are promted to reboot,
don't until you are finnished)

(have install discs ready! you never know... fresh downloaded unpacked drivers to
motherboard/video, put a shortcuts on the desktop)

then reboot and remove all knowned by you old software (drivers, can be hard to know, you
had the same motherboard vendor)

reboot again, the system will be more cleaner now! (run regcleaner or any other registry
cleaner program you trust :-)

Same here. This was the 3rd or 4th time I did it under Windows XP alone.

Usenet is great as I never thought to look under there. I had 9 devices
listed under "non plug & play" that had error marks. I wrote down all
the driver/service names and uninstalled them. One was from a Matrox
Marvel video card I used 3 motherboards ago (circa 2001).

}(have install discs ready! you never know... fresh downloaded unpacked drivers to
}motherboard/video, put a shortcuts on the desktop)

All the system stuff under device manager seemed ok as there were none
greyed out...

Thanks for the help! After 13+ years of building home computers I still
learn something new nearly every day...

Thanks,
Dave

That is what I was afraid of... Time to do more troubleshooting...

CPU-Z 1.31 still has the core greyed out but I think Windows loaded
..000164 seconds faster... Seriously, of the services/devices I
uninstalled none caused a problem on rebooting so all is good. I deleted
all the drivers as well.

Both cores must be working as I have 2 different color CPU graphs under
CPU usage on the performance tab in taskmgr. Oh well...

Thanks,
Dave
