My BIOS reports I have this: (on POST)

SATA LBA ATA 100 250 gig hard disk

but I purchased a SATA 150 hard disk with 250 gig

shouldnt the BIOS POST say ATA 150 instead of 100?

Depends on the drive likely - if it's using an SATA to PATA bridge chip
on the drive to implement the SATA interface, it may only do ATA100..
