Hi,

A what was a really stable system started developping a weird problem.

At random points, the keyboard and the mouse will stop responding
but the rest of the system is working fine. When it happens, I can
connect to the PC remotely via VNC and control it like everything's
fine but locally the keyboard/mouse still won't response. A reboot
will clear the problem until the next time.

Both components are plugged on the PS/2 ports. I think I'll try to
move the mouse to USB and see if it can be related to the PS/2 ports.
Quick searches on Google show that someone else had that same problem
but no solution was provided.

The system is running Win XP Pro fully patched with an user with no
administrative rights, so spyware and/or extra junk shouldn't be
the reason (I did check with Spybot just in case). It is also
running McAfee and up to date, shouldn't be a virus unless it's
something very new. I also checked the Event Viewer logs, nothing
out of the ordinary in it.

I think the problem could be hardware related. Anyone heard about
such a problem before?

Thank you for your help,
Pierre

I have the same MB, and OS. From the very beginning early after boot the
mouse and keyboard would quit responding. I upgraded the bios to the latest
upgrade and it solved all my problems. No more hard restarts.
