Just had a problem with an A7V8X-X bios:

Here is what I sent to ASUS :

Hi,
I just built a system for a customer using the Asus A7V8X-X motherboard and
I had a problem that I should bring to your attention.

Built the system with only the AGP Video card installed. No problems at
all - Great motherboard especially for the price.

Updated the bios to 1006 from 1005 with no problems.
Installed a Rockwell modem with no problem.
Restarted the computer and it boots into the bios menu. I checked everything
in the settings and all was OK.

The computer would restart every time into the bios menu. Tried a different
manufacturere modem and the same problem - restarts into bios menu.
I flashed the bios back to 1005 and it works perectly now.
Are you aware of a problem with the newest bios ?

Also the motherboard came without the Game Port attachment. Was it supposed
to be in the kit ?

Anyone else had this problem ?
Thanks
Ron

I have the similar problem. I have bios 1006 came pre-installed.
Here is what I observed.

When I first turn on the computer it POSTs and goes to the Operating
System. (Mine is Win98 and Mandrake Linux dual boot). Then when in
windows if I go to Start->Shutdown and choose restart it POSTs and goes
it to Bios Setup.

I have US Robotics Model 2976 Internal PCI Hardware modem installed.

I wrote to ASUS.. got reply saying

My name is Sean, and I would be assisting you today.
Please try to install the OS following the steps to look for
which cause the problem:
1. Re-assembly your machine in a pure environment (remove
unnecessary components out, just leave, motherboard, power supply,
CPU with cooler fan, video card and memory, without computer housing)
to install OS.
2. Install VIA 4in1 driver before other drivers.
3. Install devices into case one by one carefully and the drivers.
4. Sound Card is at last.

right...

Just love the responses from most of these suppliers !!

It was definately the bios version as there has been no problem since.

Maybe you shpould try flashing your machine to the 1005. You will have to do
it using a floppy as the Asus Update won't allow you to go backwards.
