A7N8X VM/400 reboots spontanously, onboard graphics buggy ?

Hi,

I bought two Asus A7N8X VM/400 and both of them make serious trouble.
It was almost impossible to install Windows XP, and after it was
installed there were spontanous reboots.
Changing the Mainboard had no effect, changing the RAM had no effect.
Im sure it is not the power supply.

I think it is the integrated gpu, cause the windows stop messages and
reports include often the device driver of the graphic card.

And when i plug in a AGP card, the are no more troubles!

I use Corsair Value Select PC400 CL2.5 DDR Ram, two 256MB sticks.
With one sticks it doesn't work also.

Is there an easy (and cheap) way solving my problem (instead buying an
AGP card or premium ram) e.g. deactivating something in the BIOS ?
(I have the newest final relaese for this motherboard).

Thanks,

Dominik Spies

A very memory fussy board I'm afraid when using on-board graphics.
Googling will give you the full story, this thread is typical:

If you have to use obg, then premium memory is the only answer, buying
from a guaranteed to work or will exchange supplier.

I've built two machines using this board, both worked perfectly using
standard Major branded ram but I also tried Corsair value select 512Mb as
well. The cosair got rma'd and finally refunded as it caused bluescreens all
the time, even on my A7N8x Deluxe it caused problems, both machines are
still running happily on Major.

I have two machines with a A7N8X-E Deluxe, my private one and the
"server" wich should work together with the two A7N8X VM/400 maschines.

Both run with 2 * 512MB Corsair VS PC400 CL 2.5 and are stable, fast and
my private machine runs with a FSB of 215 MHz without problems.
