I know the fx and Athlon64 are now out

If AMD release another Barton it'll work, but I'm not expecting them to be
able to get much than 2.2GHz out of the Barton core. I also don't think
there are plans for another core for that socket (Barton die shrink and/or
SOI would be ideal for more speed).

It might be, but AMD have specifically said they will be supporting the
Socket A for (IIRC) Q4 2004, so who knows what might be in store for us?

I think so, if you want top end.

Indeed it is, top end is not going to be necessary forever. You am I trying
to kid? :-P
