All,

I just purchased and tried to install a new (CoolerMaster) case for my
A7N8X-E. The case comes with a new form factor ATX 24-pin power supply
which separates into 20-pin and 4-pin connectors.

I could not get the system to boot with this ps. I installed the old
one and it worked okay.

I contacted the manufacturer and they told me the following:

"Please make sure your Mother board does not require the -5V. The -5V
standard has been take out by Intel 3 years ago. All of Cooler
Master's PSU will not come with -5V output."

Does anyone know if this mb needs -5V?

Yup - I have the manual in front of me. It is listed in the settings in Asus PCProbe, and shown on
the pinouts for the 20pin ATX power connector.

Neither of these mean that it needs the rail. On a couple of other
motherboards for which exactly the same comments apply, the rail is
present, monitored, but not _required_. Technically, there is nothing on
the board that actually uses this rail (if you look through the data
sheets for the chipset, none use this). On one of the other machines, it
works OK, _provided_you disable monitoring of this rail in the BIOS. The
A7N8X-E, doesn't though appear to have a BIOS option for this (which
actually suggests that Asus don't consider it essential).
