I recently installed the nVidia 3.13 platform driverset OVER 2.45 and I am
NOT seeing any USB 2 references in Device Mgr. I have USB 1.1,2.0 enabled in
1005 bios and am using Antec case with the 2 front USB ports 5-6 in addition
to USB ports 1-2, 3-4 onboard. I have XP Pro SP1(OEM) installed. I don't
have any USB 2 devices to try out, but this is my DevMgr listing under
"Universal Serial Bus Controllers":

-Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller
-Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller
-Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller
-USB Root Hub
-USB Root Hub
-USB Root Hub

I am sure I previously saw references to USB2 in DevMgr either before
upgrading to 2.45 OR upgrading to 3.13
I looked into my nVidia folder for both 2.45 and 3.13 and see that there IS
a folder named USB in 2.45 but NOT in the 3.13 release??????
I tried removing all DevMgr USB entries and had Windows redetect USB, and
got the same 6 entries as above.

What am I missing here? Any help is appreciated.

Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller is the sign that you have USB2
installed on your system.

That's how it shows in device manager.
I did not install SP1 but installed the USB form the disk that came with my
A7N8X.
It now shows the USB2.0 in device manager as:

Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller
Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller
Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub

What case do you have?

FWIW - Terry's right. The "2.0" reference for USB devices/controllers does
not appear in DevMgr. i.e., you will not actually see a number "2" nor a
"USB2" nor the phrase "Hi-Speed". Just the notation that Terry pointed out.
That said, the following should be noted for anyone else that may be reading
this thread:

If you install a USB2 device/controller in a system that does NOT have sp1
installed...you will not enjoy the USB2 support offered by our friends in
Redmond. Even if you subsequently DO install sp1, you must still [manually]
update the drivers. (At which time XP will automatically find and install
said drivers).

The caveat to this is, AFTER you have installed sp1, if you UNinstall the
USB2 devices - as Mr. Gorrie did - then allow XP to RE-detect/install those
devices...THEN the USB2 drivers will be loaded during detection [because
they are already available in the appropriate folders].

If like me anyone has the same board you do not need SP1 installed to
use/have USB2.0 support.

The contents on this CD will allow OEMs and System Builders to incorporate
USB 2.0 32-bit support for
EHCI Host Controllers on the Microsoft(r) Windows(r) XP operating system
(build 2600).
Please note that Windows .NET Server and Windows XP SP1 will NOT need this
package,
because they already contain software support for USB 2.0.

This is what I did and I now have the use of USB2.0 without installing SP1

Yep... there are drivers for USB2 devices out there.

Just thought I'd point out that Win2k SP4 also natively supports USB2,
anything earlier will require a 3rd party driver.

I have the same setup - USB2.0 is avail ONLY on the back usb ports - I had
to 'test' them all until I found the two that were 2.0

No way.
All ports on the back will be 2.0 as long as you have USB2.0&1.1 or 2.0
enabled in bios and you have 2.0 support(sp1 or from the disk).
No reason why any front ones should not also be 2.0.
You cannot just have two back ones being 2.0
All 4 on this board are 1.1 and 2.0 and the 2 on the plate.
If 2.0 is not enabled in bios then all ports will be 1.1
There is no such thing as only USB 2.0 ports
Same goes for no such thing as only 1.1 ports unless the board only supports
1.1
USB ports are just that.

I meant as long as you have USB2.0&1.1 enabled in bios.

Viper:
To be clear - USB 1-2 ports (beside nVidia RJ45 Lan port) and USB 3-4 ports
(beside 3Com RJ45 Lan port) are all USB 2.0 enabled? (all 4 back panel
ports?)

If that is correct and you get only USB 1.1 on your Antec front pair of
ports, there may be an issue with the Antec instructions for connecting
these to the A7N8X dlx2.0 USB 5-6 onboard header. I recall an earlier post
by a user who described this problem. When I built my machine in August, I
wired the ports as the poster had indicated, but have no USB devices to
check the connection, as yet. I wrote down the 9 connections as follows (I
believe 1 represented port 5 and 2 represented port 6) :

Y 2 -D
Or 2 +5v
Br 1 grd
Gr 1 +D
Bl 2 grd
Gray 2 +D
Red 1 +5v
Wht 1 -D
Black/Charcoal ground

The poster claimed USB 2.0 on the front panel ports with this configuration.
I also recall another post around the same time that indicated the Antec
ports were not capable of USB 2, only 1.1
They mentioned contacting Antec who sent a revised port pair as a
replacement for the case. Solved the problem.

Did you connect the Antec 1394 front panel port? Is it operative? Please
post your experience to the group.
