My website is being hosted by a hosting service.

My search form doesn't work. Check the homepage if you like.

The URL in the address bar reads:

http://www.dennisys.com/_vti_bin/shtml.dll/search.htm

There is no _vti_bin in my domain, and I have hidden files viewable.

Where do the shtml.dll and other FP extension dll's come from?

Shouldn't they be installed with the FP extensions?

Thanks,

Dennis,

Hi Dennis,

Try resetting or reinstalling the extensions from your site control panel.
If this is not a CP option, then ask your host to do this for you.

I see you are having a problem with the feedback form as well. The FP Save
Results component is appearing there. This can be because of an extension
problem or using FTP to transfer the pages instead of the built in FrontPage
"Publish Web".

It is an option, but even after reinstalling and checking the extensions the
_vti_bin and dll's do not appear.
My guess is that there is an installation script that is wacked.
zero + 10 days and the site still doesn't work properly. What can I do?

Yes I just built both of those forms to test the extensions.
That should have been fixed by reinstalling the FPSE too right?
Think I'll give them 4 more days, an even two weeks, then write it off as an
expensive learning experience.

Thanks,
Dennis.

Your site "does not" have extensions installed.

Contact your host.

You will never see the _vti folders or their content from within FP.

If you open the site in FP you wont see these no matter if you have
chosen to see hidden folders.
The search form says that the indexing service isn't running. Talk to
your host about this. They may not allow this feature.

I have been talking to my host for 10 days. It doesn't seem to be getting me
anywhere.
This is ASPnix.com. Heard of them? They won my choice in the offerings/price
competition when I had to look for a new host that offered ASP 2.0.

Why do you say the extensions are not installed? How do you know?
Do you have a utility that checks for the FPSE's, or are you commenting
based on the errors?

They are installed now.
http://www.dennisys.com/_vti_inf.html
returns the proper page.
When I checked it earlier it returned a 404 page not found.

The host is not turning it on for whatever reason. I have asked them to turn
it on four times. Seems an indexing service would be important, and the loss
of it would impact several areas, maybe including database services.

So my next question is, what is going to be the impact of losing this
Windows service on website development. Will it also affect MS Access
development?

What FrontPage components am I not able to use as a result of the loss of
this service? Anyone have a list?

Thanks, Dennis.
