I am using a 3rd Party FTP application and need to upload the _derived files
but I don't know where they are. Also apparently need to upload the _borders
file. Where can I find this stuff?

You must turn on show hidden folders in FP.

The "show hidden folders" button is activated. The derived folder is not
there.

They are never visible in FP
If Publishing w/ FP (http or ftp mode), FP handles them

If using a 3rd party FTP you need to set Windows Explorer and your 3rd party FTP to show hidden, system, known file types
