I'm hunting for the right deal on a 256MB 9800Pro, but as I'm still learning
about GPUs, I'm not clear about what makes one card beat another. I'm
comparing two similar cards at dabs.com, one by Sapphire and one by
dabsvalue. With a £55 price difference, should they offer the same
performance?

£188: http://www.dabs.com/uk/productview.h...K&refererid=WQ
£243: http://www.dabs.com/uk/productview.h...Q&refererid=WQ

One is brand new, the other is used. Pretty obvious why one is £55
cheaper don;t you think?

Opinions personal, facts suspect.

The used ones are a further £20 cheaper, making a £75 price difference. But
I'm talking about the new one...

One's OEM and the other's a full retail package. There may be other
differences, but that's the main one I can see.

dabs used stuff means returned stuff, so pot luck if it works properly or
not
take a look at these online shops too

www.ebuyer.com
www.komplett.co.uk

failing the above 2 if you need particular parts:
www.overclockers.co.uk

ebuyer is the main one, dabs tend to charge more i found, so stopped using
them, i buy most stuff from ebuyer these days

video cards, don't buy 256 meg ones over 128 meg ones, there is no point
currently, buy 256 if it's not much more, but don't kill yourself to get 256
over 128 meg
best choices are:

ATI 9800SE 128 meg
ATI 9800 Pro 128 meg

thats for mid to mid/high range though, geforce 6 and ati x800 cards cost
too much for what they are currently

Cards difter alot in specs . The new ones have 256bit bandwith. This will
make the game run better. Also image quality is improved with a faster card.
