Tried to get the update of WindowsDefender but download stops at 85% for both
options, Run and Save. I have dled many other things since trying including a new Windows Installer but nothing will get the file past the 85% point. In anticipation for the new update, I did as the info sheet said, I uninstalled the Beta version. Now I have no Defender. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Tom -- (E-Mail Removed) |

Thanks for all the info. I did what you recommended and tried to dl WD again
but got the exact same problem. The DL stopped at 85% for both Save and RUn. Even though I was able to DL many other programs in a row without a single problem, when I came to dl-ing WINdowsDefender.msi, the dl program stopped it with 1 sec to go and 85% finished. I've spent too much time on this problem and will simply wait till VISTA unless you can pinpoint a solution for me. ALl the cleaning and scanning programs did work but afterwards I still could not dl the WD. Thanks, Tom -- (E-Mail Removed) "Engel" wrote: > Hello Tom, > > > Ccleaner - http://www.ccleaner.com > http://www.ccleaner.com/downloadbuilds.asp > > Note, When you install Ccleaner, Uncheck the Yahoo toolbar option. > > Note, in Options, Advanced, Uncheck - Only delete files in Windows folders > > older than 48 hours. > > Note: Uncheck in Applications, the box for Utilities. > > > CCleaner even has a built-in Registry Cleaner. Hi Tom,
Install Windows Installer 3.1 v2 (3.1.4000.2435) is availªble here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893803 Locate your file msi.dll (with search if you are not sure where it's located) and confirm what the version is, either from it's properties or just passing your cursor over it. If it's not the latest which is 3.1.4000.2435, then: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893803/ Еиςеl -- "Tirado" wrote: > Thanks for all the info. Hi ENgel...
Thanks for all the help. I dl-ed the new installer and installed it, restarted the computer and tried to dl the file from several places. It stopped at 85% in all cases but one when it went to 89%. Am at wits end. Do you know of an FTP site I can use to try to dl it? BTW, computer, software are running fine. Checked them through all of the untilities you sent including my own. Have no problem dl-ing any other file, even longer exe than WD. 'Tis a mystery. Hi Tom,
Search here, from http://www.filehippo.com http://www.filehippo.com/download/88...5a33/download/ http://www.filehippo.com/download_mi...tispyware/?561 I think it is pretty risky getting a Microsoft file except directly from the source--but in an emergency.... -- "Tirado" wrote: > Hi ENgel... > Thanks for all the help. Hi Engel...
Did some more work on my computer and dl-ed several files, programs, etc. without incident but still cannot get the WindowsDefender.msi file. Tried it 4 times today and it continues to stop at 85%. My computer must have a mental block. I do not think that I missed anything that you suggested. I was sort of hoping that there was an ftp site from which I can get the file. But maybe I do not even need it since my Norton Protection Center has a spyware detector. The only problem is that when I run it the program says there are no spywares etc. But one of the sites to which you send me had a scan program that checked for spyware and it found 86 different types of problems, including some spywares. Any final suggestions short of waiting for Vista? Thanks so much, ENgel. you have been a good listener, Tom -- (E-Mail Removed) "Engel" wrote: > Hi Tom, > > Search here, from > http://www.filehippo.com > http://www.filehippo.com/download/88...5a33/download/ > > http://www.filehippo.com/download_mi...tispyware/?561 > > I think it is pretty risky getting a Microsoft file except directly from the > source--but in an emergency.... > -- > > > > "Tirado" wrote: > > Hi ENgel... > > Thanks for all the help.
