This morning Defender beta 2 popped up as available to download - my PC set
to auto update. But I got the 8024402f error when it tried to update the
signatures.

I tried http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=915105 several times.
Also tried reinstalling, disabling ZoneAlarm, disabling some router firewall
option etc.

Nothing worked. Any ideas? Reinstalling windows is not an option as this is
a recent rebuild.

Just checked and all Updates have the same issue now - so no Windows or
Office updates.

Totally disabled all firewalls and the issue remains. Complete and utter
pain when a piece of security software nobbles any possible security updates.

Hi,

Download:
http://www.ccleaner.com/ccdownload.asp
Clean out all the temp files with the crapcleaner and use also the
regcleaner.
Then download:
http://djlizard.net/software/Dial-a-fix-full.exe
and do a scan with all the check marks on.
Hope this helps, let me know.

Thanks, but that did not work either.

I uninstalled Defender and then followed your instructions. Reinstalled
defender and had the same error.

But Dial-a-fix did throw an exception with 'version.dll' or something close
to that name on the 'Explorer' part of the Registration Center - which I will
look at again later.

Thanks again.

Hi,

are you running other Beta versions of any kind?
What is happening if you Go to Windows Update site and do a Quick Scan?

Thanks its working fine now. Most odd - I rebooted my machine yesterday after
the Dialafix stage and my PC was still not updating. Turned it on today and
Defender updated fine.

Windows update is also working.

Thanks again.
