Again seizing the performance crown.... at a price ( for the moment )

See today's review:-

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2607

In stock@Newegg and available immediately (of course), in two
flavors:-

BFG and XFX, both @ $749.
Double-slot , a la X1800XT. Very slightly more power@ full load

The BFG comes with the GPU overclocked by 30MHz ( 580MHz)
No mention of clock speeds on the XFX ( at least in Newegg's brief
specs.

The X1800XT (512Meg) is listed @ $599 on Newegg but has appeared
to me perpetually out of stock; must have been very small shipments
sold out instantly --- next shipment supposedly coming on 11/15....

The X1800XT (512) is still available at ZipZoomFly for a mere $699
rip-off....

Expect the price of the 7800GTX512 to slide below that of the
X1800XT ( 512 Meg ) if/when the X1800XT ever becomes available in
quantity.........Nvidia can obviously crank the GPU handle whenever
necessary.

The XFX is 580/1730 by default.

Reports suggest the GPU will handle 600 no problem with 1800 on the RAM.

:-)

Yes. However, unlike the Xbox360 you can buy one now as a Christmas
present to yourself.

And if you have not preordered an Xbox360, don't expect to be able to
buy one off the shelf before March. Expected to be 1 million short on
preorders by Christmas Day. Good profits from suckers to be had by
many on Ebay.

Isn't that just marketing BS from Microsoft; leading people to believe
there'll be a shortage so they'll sell more.

I hear that there's a couple of 1000 'warehouses' full of the 360's. All
ready to go, all waiting for Christmas.

I really don't expect the 'money making' machine which is Microsoft to let
a 'money making' opportunity slip by.

(OT... read at your peril...)

Incorrect assumption -- in this particular case................

Check around. The reputabl;e retail stores and on-line vendors are
taking no more PRE-orders for ANY delivery. I have read that Walmart
will be allocated 6 per store on the 22 Nov (as a shopping magnet) and
no more until the preorders are satisfied. CompUSA stores will have
demos, but will not be stocking any at all till they get shipments
which are now expected to be after Christmas. (CompUSA stores do
not take preorders... far too much hassle )

There is a real shortage of Xbox360 due to lack of certain silicon.
Guess who didn't deliver, considering the current shortages of
closely-related silicon in the PC market ? ( Very unlikely to be IBM
who were only cranking out a simpler combination of existing PPC
building blocks.)

Thanks for the clarification. I was confused with the dates 10/10/2005.

(I'm just kidding you John.)

Thanks, Hank.
I owe you a smile :-) :-) :-)

I didn't look closely at the actual dates on these particular
articles. Why North Americans can't ever write dates in a
correct logical order, either day/month/year, or year/month/date
beats me.....
