7600 =120 watts

6800 = 65 watts

Now that's some power.

Surely the 6800 should handle it?

I have one and it aint had any problems with anything its come across so far. Altho I guess it does depend on the manufacturers clock speeds

They seem to be about 25% quicker from what I've read. I couldn't find a a direct comparison, so I just looked at Doom3/HL2 figures from previous card tests and compared 'em with figures from 7800gt tests.
Having said that - a 6800gt should run ES, at reasonable resolutions and detail.
