Another one of my stupid questions...how does one know whether a
computer is 64 bit or 32 bit? My new computer is loaded with Windows XP
Pro.

Thanks for your help.

One way is to check your wallet - x64 is significantly more expensive, as
well as requiring 64-bit hardware. The odds of your having WinXP x64 without
knowing it, are very slim.

You can also look in start | run | winver, if I'm not mistaken.

Just look in "system properties"

Chances are it's the 32 bit version...and if so, that's a good choice
unless you need to use more than 3 or 4 gigs of RAM

Computers with 64 bit processors can run 32 bit XP or 64
Computers with 32 bit processors can run 32 bit XP

To find out what processor you have, check the system's documentation.

To see which version of XP is installed, click Start> Run and type
winver into the text box. A screen will show up listing some
information. If 64 bit is installed, it will say so here.

In most cases, the 32 bit version of XP is installed by default. The 64
bit version is usually an ordering option; one that can be selected at
the time of purchase.
