Anyone got a 64 Bit Athlon running the usual gamut of high end games
and any problems?

Just about to buy a new machine they tell me will run everything.

Anything I shud be watching out for?

Haven't got one here, but between knowing 1-2 folks that do and the variety
of online reviews of these systems, there doesn't seem to be a problem.

If you're using it in 32bit mode, with a regular version of Windows then no
basically.

If you do want to jump ahead and use the pre-release trial Windows 64bit,
check to make sure 64bit drivers are available - not many people have
released them yet. Both the OS and the drivers are still beta, and in most
benchmarks (games the most) aren't up to the speed of 32bit yet.

Give it about a year or so and I'll probably get one. Hopefully Intel will have one.
I've heard Athlon's tend to overheat. Have any of you experienced that problem?

They only overheat if not cooled properly or the CPU fan dies - same with
Intel. Intel, BTW, *does* have a 64 bit processor - but you won't find one
in a consumer system. They're pushing an extended Pentium IV for a while.

I've run AMD for years, and have never had an overheating problem.

The new Athlon 64's are very very cool. A lot cooler then Pentium 4's.

Do you think they will come out with a Pentium V

Eventually. They *could* have called the latest-and-greatest (not the EE)
the Pentium V, but didn't want to confuse things further...

Didn't quite work, there are (IIRC) about 3 slightly different Pentium IVs
out there now...
