Hi

I upgraded my office computer and had the old one to play around with.

It has a 2 gig hard disk, Celeron 300a and 32 megs memory and had
win 98 on it.

I had a spare 128 megs memory which I installed on the machine.
Total now 128 plus 32 = 160megs.

I was planning to install Win ME but gave a try at win 2k.

It installed beautifully and after loading the driver for a modem everything
works fine.

I have decided to keep the Win 2k on it.

It hibernates beautifully so boot up is quick.

I will use if for only these tasks at a weekend retreat!

Check e-mail with Eudora 3.06
Browse with IE.
My wife will play solitaire.
Use Newsxpress to read newsgroup.

If I get the urge to spend more money on this system where should I spend
the money?

Upgrade to newer faster hard disk or add more memory?

If your tasks are limited to the ones listed, definitely go for the
faster hard drive.

None of those tasks are particularly disk or memory intensive so if
you get the urge to spend money I'd suggest you either a) send it me
(PayPal accepted!), b) take your wife out for a meal or c) take
someone elses wife out for a meal! ;-))

Best investment would probably be a CPU upgrade - it should take a
Pentium-III of up to around 600MHz at least, possibly faster.

I agree... LCD monitor... I love the Viewsonic VX900... have several.
You can find them fairly reasonably on e-bay, too.

Or, if that's more than you wanted to spend, the Logitech Cordless MX Duo
keyboard / mouse combo is really nice too...

Human interface is the most important part of the PC. Plus you can use
it on the replacement PC! :-)

8GB hard disk ... BIOS might not support bigger.
Faster Video card
Another 128MB RAM ... lose the 32MB chip
Swap the Celery 300 for a 533 ... NOT the flip chip, your board can't handle
it.

Erase all thoughts of Win ME
