5x4 glass negatives w/Visioneer 9420?

Anybody got any ideas on scanning 5x4" glass negatives using a Visioneer
9420 scanner?

"Reflective" mode is very washed out unless I can turn off the scanner
light source.

"Negative" mode only works with the 35mm negative-holder mask in place,
which defeats the purpose for the large negatives.

You can try opening the top and using a separate light to illuminate
the neg, folks have used desk lamps, use the negative settings, long
shot at best. Your best solution is a scanner designed for 4x5 negs,
starts with the Epson V700, which isn't a bad choice.
