i have a belkin router. The install disc that came with
it said 54g router. A technician setup the wiring so i
know the wiring is right. i formatted my hard drive and
installed windows 2000 pro. When i put the 54g router
install disc in
to get the router working and the install gets to
scanning computer for network settings i get the
message "no adapter information exists for local
computer". When i get to the part of install that tries
to establish communication with router i get error
mesasage "Error: there is no desc in the registry" I
already tried the internet configuration wizard it didnt
work( can someone tell me what i have to install to get
rid of these error messages?

Have you tried Belkin's support?

The Belkin 54G does not require any software to be installed although there
is a shelf life so it may need a firmware upgrade but that's done through
the browser.

What wiring is needed? Are you not near your router?
If you're getting an error regarding your adapter, then show us your
ipconfig /all results. If there is no adapter, you should get an error.

His problem isn't with the belkin router...it's the fact
that the OS is not recognizing the NIC.
