Older mobo might certainly be limited to only 256 MB ,
either as a maximum per stick or a board total.
Get EVEREST from
www.lavalys.com (free download) and scan
your computer to learn the exact make and model of the mobo
and the BIOS. Then you can check out the mobo manual
on-line and check with sites such as
www.Crucial.com to see
what the limits are, what RAM is supported and if there is a
BIOS update that will increase your limits.

| I have a pentium 600 and had 2 64MB sticks and replaced
| it with one 512MB Stick. For some reason it only
| recognizes there to be 256MB of phsyical memory? Any
| ideas on how to get the computer to utilize all of the
| memory.... I looked in the bios and there seems to be no
| setting for this at all. The physical memory portion is
| displayed but you cannot change anything. Is it possible
| the motherboard has a max of 256MB?? Any ideas are
| welcome!
