Hi all,

I have a disk image that I created with acronis true image home 2010
that I restored onto my new 500GB SATA drive. But in windows the C-
drive appears as 232,88GB system partition with windows xp home on it
and 232,88GB unallocated space so I am only using half of the capacity
of my hard drive.

Is there a way in windows to restore the full capacity of the 500GB
drive and just a little unallocated space without the need for a
reformat? Or a way to do this with acronis true image home 2010?
I have made a new disk image of the C drive as it is now but I'm
affraid if I restore this that he will again make a new drive that's
only half as big.

A disk image from a 250GB drive will restore as a 250GB drive no matter how
large the new drive is (as long as it's as least 250GB). After the
restoration, you can always use Disk Management to make the partition
larger, or use a 3rd party program such as Easeus Partition Manager Home

Acronis gave you a choice when you restored the image. You should have
chosen to leave partitions alone rather than what it appears to have done
which is repartition the hard disk to the size the image was originally on.
Repartition the hard disk back to it's max size and try restoring the image
again making correct choice OR use something else to expand the partition
into the unallocated space.

It's been a while ago I restored the image but I could swear I dragged
a slider from left to right in acronis true image to increase the
partition size from 250GB to 500GB as I read in the help file on how
to restore an image that was made on a smaller drive onto a larger
drive. So it's really strange. Probably did something else wrong then.
Anyway, I used partition magic as you said and enlarged or expanded
the current system partition to it's maximum size and now it's solved.
