Hi all when looking at motherboards in particular Asus ones I keep seeing
5000hrs VRM, over 5 years operation lifespan

I reckon VRM stands for Voltage Regulator Module
or something definetly to do with voltage and CPU.

5000 hours works out to be 208 days. Where does 5 years come into it?

what does this all mean?

VRM. The 5 years is more than likely the lifespan of the VRMat a guess..

interesting I reckon they put the 5000 hours in there by perhaps an average figure.
Perhaps the 5000 hours comes from someone putting their PC on for a few hours a day.

Say 3 hours a day times that by 365 and you get close to 1000
then 1000 times by 5 gives 5000
but because I leave my pc on 24/7 those 5 years (if this is what you and me think it is) will become 280 days!!!

Definetly does not sound good.

Asus are hardly likely to give a 1 or 2 or 3 year warranty on a mobo if the parts are only going to last 208 days now are they. Chill out friend. Time to take the penguin route to happines.

I'm addicted to penguins is my defense.

Well the chap at overclockers reackons that 5000 hours relates to the board being on the highest temperature but reckons on an average temperature it should yeild more life, I am not impressed.

I wouldn't buy a board that states something like this.

In a fixed ground environment you'd expect a much higher MTBF than that - so I wouldn't pay too much attention to those figures! If that was at a max temperature, it would be something insanely high - as they are actively promoting this 5000 hour mark in the specs.
