Hi All

50+50+17.5%=117.5

Yep, my problem is that simple, I don't know how to put the sum above into a
formula in Excel :-( I've been reading a really good book here, tells me how
to format this, resize that, but when it comes to actually doing any maths,
not a word is said :-( So, here are my questions. 1, How do I right the
formula for the above sum? And 2, anybody know of any good places on the net
for teaching how to right the formula in excel.
I'd like to say in advance thanks for any help
Regards
TC

=50+50+17.5%.
But 17.5% is .175, so the correct answer is 100.175, not 117.5.

Thanks for your help there, I don't think I've explained myself to well
here, so let me try putting it another way.
If the government puts a 17.5% tax on every 100 pennies I spend at the point
of purchase, to buy something for 100 pennies I will need 117.5 penies. Cost
+ Tax IE 100+17.5%=117
I hope I've explained what it is I'm trying to get at there a little better.
Once again thanks for your help.
Regards
TC

Try this formula, assuming your purchase price before tax is in cell a1, to
give you the total price including tax:
=a1 * 1.175

Try:

=(50+50)*1.175
or
=(50+50)*117.5%

try this:

=(50+50)+((50+50)*0.175)

should return 117.5

simply use:

=(50+50)*(1+17.5%)
