We use XP with Microsoft Small Business Exchange Server. Ran Windows Update
a month ago and now it takes 5 full minutes from entering password for login
to be complete. Screen freezes at "applying personal settings" for 5
minutes. It also takes 5 minutes to restart each PC. Has anyone had this
happen?

Try using the Windows XP Boot Logger to see what is delaying the
startup. There is a 30 day free trial period.

Good luck

Try setting your DNS setting, to the servers IP address, and then forward
external DNS query to your ISP's servers, from your own SMB server. Setup
your DNS forwarders on your server, under DNS in administrative tools.

Almost sure this is your problem...? :-) Cause when you try to login, your
computer searches for your server on the DNS layer, and if it is set to use
external DNS servers, your own server is most likely not in the DNS table...
