Winxp does not read/write my 5.25 floppy disk drive. This
same hardware (computer, disk drive, floppy) worked with
Win98SE without problem. NOw with Winxp the 5.25 floppy
is not working. XP seems to know to add the device, two
floppy lines exist in the device manager. However, the
lines don't read 3.5, 5.25 the lines just read Floppy
disk drive. When I double click on the 5.25 icon in the
My Computer window another window comes up asking my to
format the floppy. If I respond with yes another window
comes up (Format), that window has blank fields like the
OS can't "connect" with the device. WinXp has 5.25
support so what gives? I've called Microsoft without
resolution so far (SRX040320602275). Can you help? Keith
Hearns ((E-Mail Removed)) Thanks In Advance.

Ignore "nick": He is a societal outcast with no interpersonal skills and
who only wants others to be miserable. He posts under many names. He
thinks others don't recognize him. Right Milty?

C'mon.... Windows has given meaning to his otherwise useless exsistence. If
he cant use it to show everyone how anal he is, then what good is it?

Nick, Yes. I have a MS Fortran compiler that is on 5.25
floppy that I need to load. Nick, in fact relics abound
in the world of computers. Nick, you might be suprised
that all the modern programming languages have at least
one thing in common...machine language. Without this
relic there is no software to push around the hardware.

It isn't worth it Keith.
Nick only talks, Nick never listens.

Keith:

Try disabling the Floppy in the BIOS in the Mobo, then boot to XP. Check if
the Drive Disappears. then Shut Down, reboot, but alter bios again to be the
Correct Floppy. There is usually options for the 1.44 , 2.88, and 5.25 in
there. XP may just need to start over.

Ok - is your 5.25 a 1.2MB Drive or a 360KB Drive?

You say XP did detect it somewhat - so maybe the A/B Swap in Bios is
enabled, or the Cable you are using is
Wired to only suit 1 Letter? Try another Cable maybe. Usually the Floppy "A"
is on the end, and the 5.25 Inch "B" takes the next spot inward from
there.....usually taking the Flat Edgecard type connection, not the header
type.
Also, if you place a 1.2MB Disk in a 360K Drive, it will ask to format it ,
and vise versa.
