5.1 Sound and Vista

I have Vista and a X-Fi Audio sound card.

I have set it up so that I have 5.1 sound, I checked it through speaker
config on control panel and all 6 speakers work.
When I play an MP3 I only get sound through the front left/right and centre.
I have read this is because they are not encoded in 5.1 sound, but I would
have thought sound would come through anyway.

The other issue is when I play a DVD, and pick DTS 5.1 I get no sound, I f I
pick PCM I only get sound out of the from left/right and centre and not the
rear speakers.

Is there a way to get all 5.1 speaker working in Vista?

So far, good.

Not by default. Some audio players are able to pipe the signal to the other
speakers.

Unfortunately the most current driver from Creative does not support DTS
Decoding.

Known issues:

This driver does not support the following:
Decoding of Dolby® Digital and DTST signals
DVD-Audio
DirectSound®-based EAX games
6.1 speaker mode
Applications from the original Sound Blaster X-Fi CD will not work with this
download.

We just have to wait for a better driver.

Thanks for that info, where did you get it from?

So basically what you are saying that there are X-Fi cards that don't have
driver support in Vista to fully use the capabilities of the card?

That is correct. The information I pasted for you is from the Creative
website.

Creative did not start developing a driver for Windows Vista until one month
before it was released. It's going to take a while before we see anything
decent come from them.

Thank you Creative!!!! Grrrrrrrrr.......
