whenever IE gets a 404 error and goes to the error page i
am redirected to hitpointer.com which then redirects me to
fassia.com.

the only way i have found to block this is to disable
third party browser extensions but then some of the
software i use wont work

can anyone give me instructions on how to fix this

Fassia.net is used by this parasite. It may not be using alsol fassia.com as
a new variant.

If you get a 404 error or Access denied, try:

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates "hijackthis.log")

Next, HijackThis | Config [button] | Misc Tools [button]
Click: Generate StartupList log [button] (generates "startuplist.txt")

Next, go to the below location:
