I am adding a new 400GB IDE drive as a slave to my XP system (running Windows
XP Home SP2). My Master Drive is 120GB. I upgraded my BIOS to support LBA
48 to support the increased capacity of the new drive. However, using
Seagate's DiskWizard or Partition Magic 8.0, it appears that the disk has
only 130GB of configurable space. I have not yet partitioned the new drive.

When I reboot to Seagate DiskWizard CD and run utility, it recognizes the
whole 400GB drive.

Note that I installed SP2 a while ago, well before I upgraded my BIOS to
support LBA 48 and added a bigger drive.

Also, I have HDInfo and am providing some of the output that it provided:
IDE Channel: Primary Slave
Drive Model: ST3400832A
Firmware: 3.03
Manufacturer: Seagate
Size: 400.1 GB

48-bit LBA: Supported
LBA: Supported

mainboard model please?
set HDD in bios as LARGE instead of LBA, this help in my case.

It is a relatively old computer I built in 2002. The Motherboard is an Asus
A7v133 Motherboard. I upgraded the BIOS right after I installed the new
Slave HDD.

I have the BIOS set at AutoDetect and it does detect the new HDD at 400GB,
so I do not think the boot routine is at issue here.

Any other thoughts?

I assume that when only 130GB is seen, Disk Wizard and Partition Magic
is running under Windows XP? If so, then your Windows XP isn't
configured to support 48-bit LBA.
Have you run Windows XP's Disk Management snap-in? Based on the above
I assume that it will see only 130GB.

When you boot from the Seagate CD, disk access is done via the BIOS,
so if the entire drive is seen, that means the BIOS supports 48-bit
LBA.

All this means is 48-bit LBA is required to fully access the drive.
