hi, i have an odd support situation that i can't seem to find anything
online about.

it's a dell optiplex desktop with integrated intel video card chipset
running winxp sp2 with all patches.

this is a desktop that acts as a presentation desktop station. it has a
monitor signal spliter connected to it so that it can display same image
as on crt desktop monitor and a presentation projector hooked up to the
ceiling.

if both the monitor and projector are plugged and the OS boots up -- it
looses it's video display settings and defaults to god awful 4-bit color.

if i unplug the projector and only have the monitor hooked up and let
the OS boot. it works fine and gets it's 800x600 16 bit color settings.

does anyone know why that is?

the quick fix doesn't work because non-tech business customers don't
want to be plugging and unplugging cables before a presentation.

Which driver are you using? The one that is "shipped" with XP, the
one from Dell (on CD or download) or the one from Intel?

Try an enhanced cable, based on coax technology.
