4-in-1 prints only one page

My new HP5510xi has never printed more than 1 complete page. It gets about
halfway through the 2nd (either page 2 of a document or page 1 of a 2nd
document) and stops. Printer status = "printer disconnected". Have changed
USB ports and cables, de-installed/re-installed printer, upgraded USB
drivers. Compaq Help has me try everything and says it is a printer problem.
HP Help has me try everything and says it is a computer problem. Unit
prints a test page, works fine as a FAX or a copier, cannot scan to computer.
My old OfficeJet works fine.
