Just ran the free version and came out with a score of 3579, which methinks is bad.
Athlon 3200+
xp home
geforce 6600gt card

Any ideas on how to optimise it ??

Only takes one tree to make a thousand matches only takes one match to burn a thousand trees.

Hmm...well that doesn't seem that bad really. Depending on the other components, you should expect about 3500-4000 with a 6600gt. A 6800gt will only get around 5000 if it isn't overclocked.

Since 3DMARK05 was released, nVidia driver updates have raised the 3dmark05 score a good few hundred marks, so make sure your drivers are new.

If you only have a 128mb card, make sure you have a gig of RAM and a AGP aperture of 256mb. You could also try overclocking your GPU as well. Overclocking the processor will help in games, but 3DMARK isn't really affected by the processor speed.

Overclocking requires that one has proper knowledge of the PC as well as a heart as big as Jupiter

Overclocking is thrilling but can be very unpredictable if one is not careful. Many have fried their pocessors and ram going overboard. I also heats up the system so you need to have adequate cooling before you attempt it.

I am not trying to discourage you but merely spelling out the risks involved and in the hope that you know what you are doing.

There are many sites on the internet dedicated to overclocking and you should not have any difficulty finding the information. Google can be very helpful.

Download the Nvidia reg hack from www.guru3d.com and apply it (it's a very small download)

Then when you open up the advanced options in your graphics card panel, you have the option to overclock.

PS: It's called the Detonator/Forceware Hidden Features patch and is 2Kb. Or you could use Coolbits 2 for more features, again a very small download.

Click 'Downloads' button at the top

In the 'Select' box click on Video cards - Overclocking and Tweaking

The downloads are listed there.

MAKE SURE you go in to the BIOS and set your AGP aperture to 256mb. It will give you a massive performance boost. I did the same when I had my 6800 128mb, and it made it almost exactely the same as my new 256mb 6800gt. If you have a gig of RAM, you really HAVE to have an AGP aperture of 256mb with a 128mb card.

Anyway, to unlock overclocking in the nVidia control panel, open up a txt document and paste THIS into it. Then just save it, rename the file '.reg' instead of '.txt', and run it.

After that right click on your desktop, go to properties, settings, advanced, 6600gt, and you'll see 'clock frequency settings' has appeared as an option. To find your maximum overclock, raise the CPU core by about 20mhz, and run 3Dmark05. If there is a problem you will see 'artifacts', which is a euphemism for 'f*ck-ups', appearing. If they don't, keep raising the clock in 10mhz increments until you DO get problems, and then bring it back down by 15mhz.

After that, do the same for your memory. As long as you don't go whacking up the speeds by 100mhz, you'll notice errors long before you actually do any damage.
