The guy at B&H just said that the entry level Minolta/Konica Elite is
off the market. What's left in the 2700ppi (or better) film scanner
market?

Is the market dead and should i look to Ebay for one?

Don't get a Minolta/Konica of any sort, They have been abandoned, all
service has been referred to Sony. And Sony is doing nothing.

You best bet now is a Nikon Coolscan V ED for about $500.
