I have an A7V333-X, on the Asus site it states that it support the
XP 3000+. I had a XP 1800+ with 2x 512Mb PC2700 RAM (one Samsung, one
AZERAM). I bought a XP 3000+, but the system reboot or I get the BSOD
after about 2-3 minutes, if I start a game like Unreal Tournament, it
freeze after about 30 secondes.
I removed one stick of RAM, with the Samsung only, I can't even
start any games, with the AZERAM only, the system is a bit more stable,
but it freeze anyway after about 2-3 minutes of Unreal Tournament.
I also get a lot of Windows instability, corrupted files, etc. I'm
using Win XP Home.
Both RAM sticks are labeled PC2700 333Mhz, I ordered PC3200 RAM because
I thought those RAM didn't handled the 333 BUS correctly but I'll get
them only the 9th of Jan. Anyone else have other clues??
Thanks.
P.S.: I put the 1800+ back in and everything is normal

Dean

the 333 is rated to handle up to 333 mhz cpus....i think ur 3000 is 400
mhz....it is prob ur motherboard reading the cpu wrong...i suggest getting a
new mobo to go along wit that new cpu- possible a7n8x or abit nf7

total guess but sounds like it may be
1) memory related - have you tested the ram with a program like memtest86
www.memtest86.com to see if it can handle running at 166fsb - as I assume
the 1800+ is being run on a 133fsb. Have you tried changing the timings for
the memory - ie setting them manually if on auto or vice versa. Have you
reset the bios to its defaults to remove any settings that may be causing
instability
2) temperature related - what heatsink and fan are you using - is it rated
for xp3000+?
3) power related - can your psu take the additional load of the xp3000+ in
addition to all hdds, optical devices. 300w may not be enough

Could it be your PSU isn't powerful enough? Under load a Barton 3000+
may use 10A more, so if it's only crashing during a load that could be
the cause.

T-Bred(a)1800+ 30A to 35A.
Barton 3000+ 35A to 45A.

1) No, haven't tried memtest yet, 1800+ is running on 133 FSB alright.
tried 1003 and 1004 BIOS, 3000+ cpu is supported since 1003. Tried slowing down
RAM, put it at slowest setting (CAS3, etc)
2) Don't think so...I installed an all copper Volcano10+ rated up to 3400+ cpu's

3) don't think so...I have an Enermax 465 , 430 W PS

I have an Enermax mod. 465, rated at 430W... If that's not enough I
dunno what would do :-/

I't's a retail CPU and on the package it is written " with 333 Mhz Front
side Bus", on the southbridge chip of the A7V333-X there's a sticker with
"333Mhz FSB Support". Getting another board isn't what I was looking for... :-(

Should be fine, I use an Antec 400w and run my Barton at 2.3GHz+ without
any problems.

Found this on anandtech.com, The important thing to realize is the
combined wattage on the +3.3V and +5.0V rails. Even though PCs are ever
increasingly dependant on the +12V rail, AMD users need to keep a close
eye on the +3.3V power line.

On the PS : +3.3Vdc= 35A
+5.0Vdc= 35A
+12Vdc= 33A
3.3 and 5 V output= 200W
Total output = 460W

Looks like you have enough power, unless the voltages have a huge swing,
are too low/too high, then I'd say the PSU is just fine and must be
something else.

PSU Antec 400W (max rating)
+5V - 38A
+12V - 18A
+3.3V - 28A

5+3=240W
5+3+12=380W
