hi, thanks in anticipation for looking at my query. I was running google,
left my pc for a while then returned and it had gone back to sign in and it
said I had 3 programs running when I only had google running. forgive my
ignorance but what does that mean? I searched for this and read that if you
have more than one svchost.exe running it meant something else was occurring,
I have 6, 1 local service, 2 network service, and 3 system. Is this related
to my first query? can anyone help me understand? thanks

It is perfectly normal to have several svchost running at the same time.
Several processes depend on it, hence the reason for several instances. I
have 6 running as I write this.

It is better understood as having more than one process executing
svchost.exe. This is no more significant than if you had more than one
process executing notepad.exe.

If you look at the processes via Process Explorer, you will find that each
process is using svchost.exe to perform different tasks.

Might there have been start-up programs running in the systray?
Antivirus or firewall perhaps?
