I have frequently used 2-D Scatter diagrams within Excel
and used trend lines etc.

Now want to do 3-D Scatter diagram with a trend surface
rather than trend line.

Can anybody help?

Not native to XL. You might want to search google.com for
freeware/shareware/commercial add-ins.

Good luck. I've been searching high and low for years for this, and
although I'm confident it can readily done by a clever programmer, I've not
been able to find anything that does this.

If you have MathCAD, it may have an Excel addin that brings its 3d charting
engine to excel, which will give you 3d scatter charts and all sorts of
contour charts, 3d surface charts, etc. They do have such a thing, but
whether it works is another matter. You might look into a product named
Axum that might have an excel addin. But I think it may have been bought
out by the MathCAD folks.
